checked out an interesting read from daniel goleman, emotional intelligence. the concept of eq is a hot trend in better understanding success at work. there are generally four kinds of emotional intelligence — emotional literacy (knowledge and understanding of how one’s emotions function), emotional fitness (trustworthiness and emotional flexibility), emotional depth (growth anmd intensity of one’s emotions), and emotional alchemy (leveraging emotions to spark creative opportunities). how do these principles correlate to success in business?

people with higher eq (emotional intelligence quotient) are generally more successful at work. why?

1. greater ability for communicating ideas, intentions and goals.
2. more assertive, articulate and sensitive to nuances.
3. better social and teamwork skills.
4. greater ability to build supportive climates, which leads to greater commitments being made.
5. higher level of perception – which leads to better leverage of strengths and compensation of weaknesses.
6. more effective coping skills – which leads to better management of demands, pressure and stress.
7. greater ability to identify what followers feel and need.
8. greater ability to inspire and excite.
9. less prone to negative, defensive and destructive decision-making styles.
