i’m member of the music biz group at linkedin and just came across an interesting thread about the undesirable way in which many artists act. like the folks who chimed in, i’ve seen a ton of ill-placed arrogance, egotism and the like from young and old artists alike. it’s ugly and counter-productive! the good news is that these folks are getting less service when they need it most. handlers, technicians, managers, you name it – they don’t work as hard for those artists who act enfranchised, broadcast that they are “brilliant” or “geniuses” and/or treat the pros around them poorly. the good news? most say they would do just about anything for artists who carry themselves graciously as professionals. i can attest to this. i’m central to a production this week for a “gracious” client named dick kaufmann – and there isn’t much i wouldn’t do to help him succeed.
