no, i’m not talking about those who tap into computers to cause havoc. what i’m worried about is a particular set of traits found in micro-managing business owners — smart people who accept less than the best! as marketers, we’ve all worked with the type. we’ve all struggled to understand why he or she admits to being a hack yet insists that it’s ok and won’t hurt business. the traits? slow to trust. resists research. can’t measure results. relies on yesterday’s technology and information. not overly concerned about competitors. handles as many tasks around the office as possible. i worry that more and more small business owners will fall into the hack trap over time. the market is being flooded with d.i.y. encouragement. low-dollar services promise turnkey solutions that deliver serious results (impossible!). specialists aren’t as respected as they once were. attention levels are down. slackers abound. you get the point. this is something to monitor (and avoid)!
