i always get a kick out of hearing people who are employed (or a bit out of touch technology wise) who think facebook is for slacking off, procrastinating and other forms of passing time. that’s why you are on facebook — not so for small business owners, service providers, celebrities, and more. this is brand building and vital face time. meaningful relationships are begun and real business is happening every day via social media. people post opportunities as a status message. the first one in usually gets the nod. having bursts of conversation can also lead to work. you’re staying in front of people, which goes back the basic laws of how advertising and/or brand loyalty works. i post my latest in-progress or completed work in a gallery that people often link to — ie. look at what my friend does! it’s time to take a more serious look at how social media plays into the development of business relationships. people buy from people they like. they buy less from services offered, price, and other factors. people like those they know and who keep it light. facebook is certainly a leading “light” medium, no?
