if you’re professional (especially if you’re female), then it’s time to boycott godaddy. two things make me sick about this business. first off, their commercials with danica patrick are completely trashy. go to the website to watch her expose herself? help keep her beaver safe and out of sight? unbelievable. they sell domain name registration like they’re running a strip club. the funny thing is that when you land at their website, it’s squeaky clean time. danica is completely covered in a white tshirt and the website feels clinical. wow. nice magic trick. secondly, godaddy abuses consumers. they know that you’re coming to register a domain name, and that you likely don’t understand how that process works. so what do they do? they confuse you into thinking webhosting is also needed — and will you buy a year of that in advance? not necessary. all you need is to “park” the domain name after registering it. that costs just $7.49 a year with them. if you like getting hit with an upsell phone call just behind your initial purchase, then godaddy is right up your alley. i can’t get enough of those! lastly, godaddy offers a website service called website tonight that vaguely promises you will be found on search engines — for less $5 a month. are you kidding me? completely unethical. i engage in this marketing layer of website development work on a weekly basis. it’s not only time-intensive but also difficult and testy for the top marketing experts. they spin “free google webmaster tools” that promise you can improve traffic just by knowing about problems with your site. really? knowing about problems means you can correct them? my tooth hurts but i won’t be doing the root canal that’s needed. your consumers are all of a sudden google specialists and marketing experts? what a joke.
