yep. that’s one of the many gems spewed forth by ryan seacrest as he interviewed willow smith, the 9-year-old daughter of will and jada pinkett smith. what else is so amazing to him? she’s vulnerable. she says what she’s feeling. she refreshing because she doesn’t have an attitude. she has a great vibe about her. there were three things that consumed me as i listened to this interview — 1) that willow admitted that what’s going on around her is “very, very, very overwhelming,” 2) how sad and corrupt the music industry is for letting someone so young say that and still put her to work for the money/fame machine, and 3) give it time — she will join the ranks of the rich and entitled. i hope i’m wrong. oh, and one other thing. i was haunted by ryan and his radio crew’s gut-busting laughter upon hearing that willow is behind in school (because of the record deal that jay-z struck with the smiths), and that she’s worried about falling behind. ryan’s hilarious advice? don’t worry about it! kids don’t tell the truth and are pretending to be ahead. are you sure? i bet they’re moving ahead. that’s also very sad. why? at some point, jay-z and others behind him will chew her up and leave her wanting that education she’s now forsaking. many celebrities go bankrupt when the industry is done with them. she won’t even own the rights to her music. they will continue to make money off of her while she struggles to figure out what to do next.
